Extracorporial Shockwave Lithotripsy ESWL

Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL)

Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL) is a non-invasive procedure used to treat kidney stones. Using an X-ray machine, the stone(s) are located within the body, and shock waves are directed at the stones to break them into small particles. These small fragments can then be passed through the urine.

ESWL is the least invasive treatment option available, as it requires no incisions or the insertion of scopes into the body. However, it may not be suitable for all patients. In some cases, the shock waves may not be effective at breaking up the stones, depending on their size, composition, or location.
