What is a Cystoscopy?

A cystoscopy allows doctors to examine the bladder and urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the bladder) closely. It is commonly used to diagnose a variety of bladder conditions. During the procedure, a thin, tube-like instrument with a small camera, called a cystoscope, is inserted into the urethra. This provides a detailed view of the bladder and urethra.

In addition to visualization, doctors can also perform biopsies (tissue sampling) or remove small bladder stones or tumors through the cystoscope.
